The Johnson County Chapter of Mocha Moms is made up of Kansas and Missouri mothers who are also a member of the National Chapter of Mocha Moms Inc. Mocha Moms Inc. began as a support group for mothers of color who choose not to work outside of the home at a full-time job in order to devote more time to their families and communities.
We at JoCo Mocha Moms feel this organization is essential because historically, mothers of color, particularly African-American mothers, have not had the opportunity to devote the majority of their time to caring for their own families. Mocha Moms, serves as an advocate for those mothers and encourages a sense of sisterhood and family between those with similar interests and experiences in raising a family. Support is fostered through playgroups, moms night events, quarterly book clubs, and community outreach opportunities.
The Johnson County Kansas Chapter of Mocha Moms began as a weekly playdate between three newly-transplanted stay-at-home moms the spring of 2003 in Overland Park, KS
Today, JoCo Mochas is a growing group of wonderful women composed of homegrown and relocated moms who represent the entire Kansas City metropolitan area.
While JoCo Mochas began with at home moms, we certainly welcome working moms too. We have a diverse group of women; full timeat-home moms, moms that work part or full time, and moms with home-based businesses.
Our focus remains the same for all of our moms. We want to provide a place for moms to connect with other moms, share valuable information among ourselves and the community, and have a great time in the process.
The mission is simple: support, community, and fun.
JOCO Mochas Mission:
To help enrich, recharge and uplift the spirit of our moms, so that they may carry that healthy happy spirit on to share with their families. A healthy, happy mom will generate a loving marriage, happy children and build stronger friendships.
